Kyocera, Seiko Instruments and GoCanvas launch unique mobile printing solution for rugged work environments
SAN DIEGO, CA, USA — August 3, 2020 — Kyocera International Inc., a North American leader in rugged mobile solutions, has joined forces with Seiko Instruments USA Inc. (SII), Japan's number one mobile printer manufacturer, and easy-to-use GoCanvas Mobile Forms to launch a complete Mobile Printing Solution for rugged work environments. The efficient, durable way to process work orders and provide receipts includes Kyocera's DuraForce PRO 2 ruggedized Android smartphone, a Seiko Thermal Portable Printer and GoCanvas Mobile Forms to help various industries with workers in the field such as retail, transportation, construction, first responders, parking and mobile services. In addition to its rugged features, the smartphone can be washed using a mild dish cleaner and disinfected using alcohol (70% solution) or cleaning wipes.
This unique offering brings together best-in-class hardware and software from three companies to ensure workers' productivity isn't impacted by drops, dirt, rain, snow or other harsh conditions. The solution provides built-in Military Standard 810G protection: DuraForce PRO 2 is certified IP68 dust proof and waterproof* and the Seiko Rugged MP-A40 Mobile printer offers IP54+ protection against water and dirt.
Businesses can create custom forms from a desktop computer and convert existing paper forms into electronic forms quickly and easily. The documents are then accessible from DuraForce PRO 2 smartphones on jobsites to add information and signatures. The portable printer provides a real-time receipt and the information is also saved digitally for the business's and clients' files. This rugged Mobile Printing Solution was designed to benefit many businesses facing harsh working conditions such as food trucks, kiosks, deliveries, field service maintenance, e-citations, retail "line busters," repair services, inspections, valet and parking garages.
"Workers increasingly require mobile options to document and provide instant receipt of service calls, deliveries, inspections, rentals, and more, but Mother Nature can wreak havoc on delicate electronics in the field, which is why we developed this rugged all-in-one package," said Vipul Dalal, general manager at Kyocera's Communications Equipment Group. "Japan-based Kyocera and Seiko Instruments have a successful history of working together — the majority of Seiko's thermal printers use Kyocera thermal printheads — and GoCanvas adds software any business can incorporate easily for a must-have, affordable Mobile Printing Solution."
Currently, some businesses use point-of-sale (POS)-type handhelds, PCs or tablets in the field to provide receipts, forgoing the many productivity and portability features smartphones and mobile printers offer.
Rugged smartphones have proven to provide considerable savings by reducing the "total cost of ownership," the initial investment and subsequent costs associated with technology failures or breakage and worker downtime due to mobile equipment failure. This solution combines a rugged device and longer-lasting ruggedized printers, further enabling savings for businesses.
"This solution combines Kyocera's industry-leading rugged smartphones with Japan's number one mobile printers and easy-to-use desktop-to-mobile software for cost-effective mobile printing that will help a myriad of businesses in the field provide faster, more efficient services," said Matt Schmitz, director, sales and business development, Seiko Instruments. "Replacing larger handhelds, PCs or tablets with these high-quality mobile printers and smartphone that can fit in a pocket will help workers become even more mobile in the field."
"A comprehensive, turnkey business solution must incorporate both hardware from leaders like Kyocera and Seiko and easy-to-use software," said Stuart Kelly, vice president, strategic alliances, GoCanvas. "Our desktop-to-mobile forms help companies incorporate their existing documents or create new ones to ensure paperwork won't slow workers down whether in the office or on a jobsite, all accessible in one central location."
