The Tacter-31D is a military-grade mobile/vehicle tablet computer offered by C4I Solutions of Elbit Systems of America. The system is designed as a vehicle computer that can quickly be mounted and dismounted for mobile applications.
The device measures 12.5 x 8.8 inches and is two inches thick. It weighs about 8.5 pounds and features a very bright and sunlight-readable 10.4-inch display with a resistive touch screen. The display has a 700+ NITs LED backlight for optimal viewability under all lighting conditions. The Tacter-31D is configured as a mobile tablet computer with a versatile vehicle dock. The computer does not have an integrated keyboard or keypad, but features a column of programmable function keys along the left side of the display.
The Tacter-31D is powered either by a 1.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo L7400 processor (for performance-oriented applications) or a very efficient 1.06GHz Core 2 Duo U7500 for applications where long battery life matters. The system comes with either a 32 or 64GB 2.5-inch SATA solid state disk, there's an internal PC Card slot, either a SD Card slot or a MemoryStick slot, and the computer runs Windows Vista (and presumably Windows 7), Windows XP or Linux. The device can handle 10-31VDC vehicle power and also has a large 8-cell Li-Ion battery plus an optional 3-cell Li-Ion Polymer battery that enables hot-swapping.
As far as ruggedness goes, the Tacter can handle a wide a -22 to 130 degree Fahrenheit operating temperature range, has passed the requisite MIL-STD shock and vibration tests, and is also sealed even against total immersion into water (down to two feet). Maximum operational altitude is 15,000 feet and the device also fills MIL-STD-461E EMI requirements.
As far as interfaces go, as a machine geared primarily towards the military, the Tacter-31D comes with both commercial and military connectors on its body and dock. Likewise, the computer is available with embedded military SAASM or commercial GPS, as well as embedded L-Band satellite communications receiver, communications controllers, or special custom modules.
