DAP Technologies announced the compact rugged V1000 VERSO fixed-mount computer on September 30, 2014 as a reliable, high-performance solution for installations in tight cabins or other small areas where larger panel computers just won't fit. DAP has accumulated considerable expertise in this segment of the market, and their latest research showed that many of their customers require substantial processing power for ever more demanding and sophisticated applications.
The V1000 VERSO with its 10.0-inch screen and compact 9.9 x 7.8 inch footprint (barely larger than an iPad) addresses the needs of those who require maximum reliability and functionality in very demanding environments, but in a smaller and lighter package. Like the larger members of the VERSO series, the new model runs on 9-36 Volts VDC power and has an internal backup battery good for up to 30 minutes of operation. All I/O is facing downward for easy, efficient mounting in vehicles or fixed locations. Also note the mounting holes for standard brackets and mounts (VESA, etc.).
Though the V1000 VERSO fixed-mount computer is primarily geared towards high performance computing, customers can either order it with an Intel Core i5-4300U processor for advanced operations (HD video streaming, GEO calculations, real-time data, etc.), or a more basic Intel Atom D2550. Both are dual-core, four-thread designs with integrated graphics, but that's where the similarity ends. The Core i5-4300U not only has turbo mode, it also includes numerous advanced technologies that may or may not be required for certain applications. Thermal design power of both chips is low enough to make fanless operation in the V1000 VERSO fixed-mount possible.
Apart from the choice of processors, V1000 VERSO customers can also select from a standard or a high-bright screen (500 and 800 nits), and JLT can configure the machines with a variety of operating systems. Atom-equipped units will probably mostly run Windows Embedded Standard 7 or 8 while Core i8 units may use Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8.1.
Note one substantial change: instead of a resistive touch screen, the V1000 VERSO uses projected capacitive multi-touch, a perfect solution for in-vehicle fixed-mount operation. Other features of note are highly sensitive built-in PIFA antennas, custom-made for reliable Wi-Fi connectivity in environments with poor coverage, and a QuickLock feature so the computer can easily be attached and detached in a vehicle.
The V1000 VERSO panel computer is designed for reliability and longevity, which means it is rugged where it matters for fixed-mount systems. It has a very wide operating temperature range of -22 to 131 degrees Fahrenheit, which means it can be used in cold storage rooms as well as in desert climates. It carries IP65 sealing, which means it's totally dust-proof and can also handle low pressure water jets from all directions. The panel is also shock and vibration resistant.
DAP Technologies points out that the V1000 VERSO line, like all VERSO panels, was specifically developed for heavy duty deployments in mining, construction vehicles, off-shore and harbor applications, and agricultural equipment. From the looks of it, the V1000 VERSO is well equipped to do that, but its good onboard connectivity, both wired and wireless, its fanless operation, its choice of operating systems, processors and even screen brightness makes it suitable for numerous other fixed-mount applications as well.
