Datalogic Jet
Ruggedized industrial PDA
(by Conrad H. Blickenstorfer)
The Datalogic Jet is a versatile professional/industrial PDA running Windows CE 5.0 on a 520 MHz Marevll PXA270 processor. Somewhat larger and significantly tougher than a consumer Pocket PC, the Jet can handle 5-foot drops to concret, operate between 14 and 122 degrees Fahrenheit and it is sealed to IP64 specifications, meaning it is totally protected against dust and also against water spray from all directions.
The Jet's strongest side is its configurability for various data capture tasks. You can get a Class 2 laser that reads AN/UPC, Code 39, 2/5 Codes, Plessey, Codabar, Code 128, EAN128, MSI, Code 93, and Code 11; a 640 x 480 2D CMOS array imager that reads Interleaved 2 of 5, Code 39, Code 128, EAN 128, Code 93, UPC/EAN/JAN, Codabar - 2D: PDF417, DataMatrix, QR, RSS codes. Among postal codes it reads POSTNET, PLANET, Japan Post, Australia Post, KIX Code, and Royal Mail Code (RM4SCC); and even a RFID reader that can handle EMS HMS Series, EMS LRP lSO15693 series, Philips Mifare Classic 1k, Philips Mifare Classic 4x, Philips Mifare Ultralight, Texas Tag-it HF-I ISO15693, Infineon ISO15693, and I-CODE SLI ISO15693.
The Jet performs especially well in bright sunlight due to its reflective 3.5-inch 240 x 320 pixel QVGA display with touchscreen. Manual data entry is simplified by an onboard 20-key backlit keypad.
For communication there is intergrated 802.11b/g, a SIM socket for GSM/GPRS WAN, and an optional integrated Bluetooth module. Expansion is via a Mini SD slot, and connectivity via serial and USB.
A removable, rechargeable Li-Ion battery pack is available in either standard or extended life configuration.
