The Casio IT-3100 is a Windows CE-based handheld computer with integrated printer that can also be equipped with a bardcode scanner and a magnetic card reader. It is offered by Casio's Industrial Handheld Division which works through a network of value added resellers and distributors.
The IT-3100 was designed as an industrial data terminal to improve business efficiency in a variety of applications that require rapid data capture and processing as well as instant printing. Examples are line busting, transportation, events, ticket sales, credit card and other sales processing, and similar.
The device is essentially a very sturdy Pocket PC with a numeric keypad and a standard 240 x 320 QVGA LED-backlit touch screen with automatic brightness control. It's powered by 400MHz Marvell PXA255 processor, has 128MB of RAM and 96MB or ROM, of which 30MB are available to users. For expansion and peripherals, there are both a PC Card Type I/II slot and an SDHC-capable SD Card slot. The battery is a 16.3 watt-hour Lithium-Ion pack.
The IT3100's integrated thermal printer can use either 80mm or 58mm paper and prints up to 28 lines per second. It can accommodate roll paper, form paper or labels. For wireless communication, there is IrDA and Bluetooth Version 1.2. There's a serial interface but no USB or WiFi.
The device can be ordered in various configurations with or without a magnetic card reader and a 1/4-inch CMOS imager that can read a variety of 1D and 2D symbologies as well as capture 640 x 480 pixel images.
Since most IT-3100s will be used outdoors, it's a rugged device that can operate in a wide -4 to 122 degree Fahrenheit operating temperature range, survive 4-foot drops, and handle dust and rain with its IP54 sealing.
While the IT-3100 is a workhorse rather than a showcase for state-of-the-art technology, it looks well equipped to reliably and efficiently handle years of use and abuse.
